Installation of spots: Recessed or surface mounted?

We are often mentioning that our spots either can be recessed or surface mounted. However, what does it mean and when should you recess your spots and when should they be surface mounted?

Recessed spots

Recessed spots for example in a kitchen or in the bathroom are an elegant and easy way to install your spots. In order to recess a spot, you will have to drill a hole at the size of the spot and screw or click the spot down the hole and into place. Our Radiant and Pace spots need to be clicked in and by doing so, the spot’s surface is even with the material it is placed in. On the other hand, an ID-LED needs to be screwed into place and the spot’s cover will be visible. If there are nowhere else to hide the wire from the spot to the driver, it can be an advantage to lead the wire through a Ø8mm hole in order to hide it completely.

Surface mounted spots:

Surface mounting of spots is the perfect solution when you need to retrofit lights into your already existing lighting set-up, kitchen or bath. By adding a surface mounted bracket (acquisition) to your spot you can avoid drilling holes in your cabinet and thereby install your spots fast and convenient. When you surface mounts a spot the bracket will be visible but it makes it possible to install the spot exactly where you need the light and if you at some point wishes to replace the spot, there are no drill holes to take into account.
